Recommended Resources

This is one of my favorite things to use when I cook. It turns out it was the best cooking related purchase I had ever made. It basically tells you how to make certain foods just how the restaurants do it, but what amazes me is that it is better and way more accurate than any other cooking resource I've tried. The best part about it is it contains a list of a large variety of restaurants like Applebees and Red Lobster (there is a complete list on the site). I guarantee you that if you give this a go you will not be disappointed!

Here it is, and happy cooking! My Favorite restaurant cook book

Another one of my favorite cookbooks to use in general. Includes many great gluten free, dairy free, and preservative free recipes and has two cookbooks with 120 recipes each.

This is an absolutely indespensable tool for any cook. My Favorite cookbook in General

My third and final resource for you all is a good cookbook for dieters. This is an amazing tool I hope all of you will use whether you are just trying to eat healthy or lose weight or both. I've used it with amazing results.

I highly recommend this one more than all the others. My favorite Dieters Cookbook

Common Cooking Mistakes Made by Cooks!

Hey there, I've got another interesting find for you guys today. I thought this would be helpful for some of the newer cookers visiting this blog and even some of the more experienced ones. This article is from the Times of India website so it should prove to be useful.

Here you go:

"If you are one of those who love to cook but end up making some common cooking mistakes, here are a few tricks that will help you feel like a Michelin-starred chef!

What do I do when my cheesecake forms a crack in the centre?
When baking cheesecake, place the tray on a small dish of water and put it in the oven. This will prevent it from cracking in the centre.

How do I prevent my cake from sticking to the tray?
In order to prevent your cake from sticking to the tray, always line the bottom of the pan with wax paper. This is apart from greasing the tray and its sides.

How do I avoid crumbling when it comes to a cake?
To keep a cake from crumbing, lightly frost layers, and then place the cake in the freezer untill it sets. Finish frosting the cake and let it sit in the fridge for an hour.

How do I check whether my cake is done?
To test for doneness in cakes, quick breads and cookies, insert a toothpick in the centre. The toothpick should come out clean and dry, or have only a few crumbs clinging. Yeast breads, rolls and loaves should be golden brown on top, sides and bottom.

How do I make my own brown sugar?
Mix one cup granulated sugar and two tablespoons of molasses. Cream it together until the sugar can be packed in a cup and measured like brown sugar. "

I hope I helped you guys no happy cooking!

Best Brownies Ever! Recipe and My Review

Taken from cooking.tips.net, here is an amazing recipe for creating awesome brownies! (My personal review is at the bottom)

"I had a friend once who didn't really like brownies because she thought they were, what she termed, a "mediocre dessert." Then, one time I made my brownie recipe, and her whole outlook on brownies changed. Her whole life, she'd had to settle for brownies from a mix or a box. Learn how to make the best brownies from scratch ever heard of—everyone will be asking you for this recipe once they've had a taste of it.

You only need a few simple ingredients:

  • 3 squares of baking chocolate
  • 1 cup of butter (2 sticks of butter)
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1-1/2 cups of flour

You start making the brownies by melting the baking chocolate and butter together. If you don't happen to have baking chocolate in your pantry, you can substitute each baking square with three tablespoons of baking cocoa and one tablespoon of shortening. If you melt it in the microwaves, make sure that you use a lower heat setting than high; otherwise, you could burn the chocolate and the butter could boil.

While the chocolate and butter are melting, mix the eggs and the sugar together in a large bowl. Once the eggs and sugar are combined well, pour in the melted chocolate and butter combination, and mix that together as well. Next, add the vanilla, salt, and flour. Make sure that it is all combined well and thoroughly. Use a spatula a couple of times to scrape the batter off the sides, so everything really does get mixed in well. (And don't forget to take a few tastes of the batter yourself!)

Pour the batter into a greased pan (a 9-by-13 pan works best), and put it in an oven preheated to 375 degrees. Let the brownies bake for around eighteen minutes. Use a toothpick to check and see if the brownies are finished: if the toothpick comes out with batter on it, then the brownies need to bake a little longer. Let the brownies cool for a few minutes and then serve! Enjoy!"
